Niamh is a wonderful and amazing writer, she writes different stories in this Lesbian Romance genre. Escape to Pirate Island is a story set in 1720 – England and across the Trans-Atlantic. This story was different from the books that I normally read. This was written in a time where being or having thoughts that you are in love with another woman was forbidden. It was a time women married based on pressure from family or to get away from a life they don’t want. The setting was an important part of the book for me, as it showed just how woman were treated during those times. The descriptions of the cities, ports, boats and people were precise. I love that as I read I could picture and imagine everything being described to me.Lily last lost everything important to her. However, she is looking for a treasure her father left. She decides to find a way to get the treasure for herself. Cat on the other hand is running from her past along with her friends. They both end up on this pirate adventure to find treasure and a new beginning. Everything from near-death, betrayal, mutiny and love change the course and lives of these women. Neither of them thought each would be of importance to one another. When I was reading the book, I thought to myself, you are the master of your own journey. There were so many different situations these women were put through. I truly enjoyed reading this book, it kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed how, just when you thought things were falling into place, something else would deter Lily and Cat. I literally bit all my nails, I was so anxious. I did scream a few times, “Aww, come on!”, when issues would arise between these women. The length of this book was longer than most lesbian romance books I have read. However, that found that to be one of the reasons I found the book so thrilling. I appreciated not knowing where the book was going at any time. I was always surprised at how far I was from what was coming. This journey and story was emotional, (I enjoyed the gentile of the love scene between Cat and Lily, when it finally transpired. I loved the vulnerability of each woman during this time of discovery of how they felt for each other). Their connection was so strong and pure.I must say that I love and enjoy reading what she has written. All her books are so different, but at the same time very intriguing. I would recommend this book, especially if you enjoy pirates, adventure, and romance, this is the book for you. At the end, I hoped that she would have written another part to this story or something similar.
