I usually wear a small, sometimes medium, these looked like they would be loose and forgiving so I ordered the small, should have chose medium, so if you are between sizes order up. I'm not sure if medium would even fit me right though, they are cut strange, they are very short (therefore tight) in the crotch area and the waist is a true fold-over which allows you to pull the ruffled part down further if you want to create more hip coverage but the large amounts of elastic make them somewhat restricting and uncomfortable. Overall it is difficult to say whether they fit poorly simply because they are a size too small for me or if that is just the way they are made.
